Latest Update: 10-2-2026
The Total Labor Hours and Total Equipment Hours columns in the Resources tab of the Table auto-calculate the total labor hours per activity and total equipment hours per activity respectively. This gives you an overview of your resource expenditure for a given activity.
How It Works
To leverage this feature for Total Labor Hours, do the following:
In the table, input the type & quantity of labor in the "Labor" column
Input a value for the number of work hours in the "Work Hrs" column if your daily work hours are different from the default value (8 hours)
Click the schedule button, and the system will calculate the Total Labor Hours by taking the product of total count, work hours, and duration.
After scheduling, you can see total labor and equipment hours per activity and summed up to their respective parent WBS (group) levels.
To leverage this feature for Total Equipment Hours, simply follow the approach above, but for equipment.
How to See Actual and Remaining Hours
Resource-load your activities as described above, then record progress on them. See How to Update Schedule Progress in Planera.
Click Schedule to recalculate. Actual and Remaining hours update each time you run the schedule.
In the Table, open the Resources tab to see Actual Labor Hrs, Actual Equip Hrs, Remaining Labor Hrs, and Remaining Equip Hrs next to the Total columns.

To see the same columns in the Gantt, add them from the Gantt column list.

Things to know:
Groups show the sum of their child activities.
An activity that has not been scheduled yet shows a blank cell, not 0. Run the schedule to fill it in.
Values show up to 2 decimal places.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does Planera calculate Total Labor Hours?
Total Labor Hours is the activity's duration multiplied by its work hours per day and the number of labor assigned. Total Equipment Hours works the same way using equipment.
What is the difference between Actual and Remaining hours?
Actual hours are the hours already used based on the progress you have recorded. Remaining hours are the hours still needed to finish the activity.
Why are my resource hours columns blank?
The values are calculated when you run the schedule. Click Schedule, and make sure the activity has labor or equipment and work hours assigned.
Can I see labor and equipment hours in the Gantt?
Yes. Total, Actual, and Remaining Labor and Equipment Hours can all be added as columns in the Gantt.
Do groups show resource hours?
Yes. Each group shows the sum of the hours for the activities inside it.
