Custom Quality Score

Customize how your organization measures schedule quality by adjusting quality score parameters; org admins and schedulers can set parameter names, pass thresholds, and impact weights to match your project needs.

Latest Update: 6-9-2026

Planera's quality score measures how well your schedule meets industry standards (DCMA scoring rules). By default, the score uses federal-standard parameters that may not fit every project or company. Use custom quality scores to adjust which metrics matter most, what passes and fails, and how much each parameter affects the final score.

This feature is available to organization admins and schedulers with the appropriate permissions. Customization applies across your entire organization; all team members see the same parameters and scoring rules.

  • Customize quality parameters without creating new ones

  • Set pass and fail thresholds for each parameter

  • Adjust how much each parameter impacts the overall score

  • Changes apply organization-wide immediately

  • Reset to defaults at any time

For more on how DCMA quality scores work, see Calculating Your Schedule Quality Score.

Access and Set Permissions

  1. Go to Libraries and settings from your home page and select Quality Scoring

  2. Verify you have edit permissions; contact your org admin if the parameters are read-only

Customize a Quality Parameter

  1. In the Quality Score settings, click on the parameter you want to adjust and set the Good, OK and Bad thresholds: enter the values that represent acceptable and unacceptable performance

  2. Turn off parameters completely so they don't affect the overall score

  3. Click Save Changes

Understand Parameter Scoring

Each quality parameter maps values to a score. Some parameters improve as values increase (higher is better); others improve as values decrease (lower is better). When setting thresholds, define both the best and worst values so the system can score in-between results accurately.

Example: For a parameter where zero missing activities is best and all activities missing is worst, you would set:

  • Pass threshold: 0 (zero missing activities passes)

  • Fail threshold: 100 (all activities missing fails)

Another example: For a parameter where a relationship type of Finish-to-Start is best and Start-to-Start is worst, you would set the scoring scale accordingly.

Reset to Defaults

  1. In the Quality Score settings, click Reset to Defaults

  2. Select Confirm to restore all parameters to their original Planera settings

Note: All custom values are removed and Planera's standard DCMA parameters are restored organization-wide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I create a completely new quality parameter?

No. You can only customize the existing parameters that Planera provides. This includes adjusting their names, thresholds, and impact weights. If you need a quality metric that is not available, contact Planera support.

Do custom quality scores apply to all team members or just certain users?

Custom quality scores apply organization-wide. Once an org admin or authorized scheduler saves changes, all team members in your organization see and use the same parameters.

What happens if I set a pass threshold that is higher than the fail threshold?

The system needs both values to calculate scores. Make sure the pass threshold represents better performance and the fail threshold represents worse performance. If they are reversed, the scoring will be inverted and may not reflect your intent.

Can I undo a customization after I save it?

Yes. You can adjust the parameters again at any time, or click Reset to Defaults to restore Planera's standard DCMA parameters.

How quickly do changes take effect?

Custom quality score changes apply immediately across your organization. All schedules will be re-scored using the new parameters the next time the system calculates schedule quality.
