Organizing Table and Gantt View

You can organize your Table and Gantt view by various fields used in the schedule.

Latest Update: 6-2-2026

The Organize by feature allows you to control how activities are grouped and displayed in both the Table and Gantt views. This is useful for switching between traditional grouped views and analytical views such as custom code-based views, resource-based views, or float paths.

Organize By In either the Table or Gantt view:

  1. Click More (top-right corner) and select Organize by

  2. Select Organize by and a toolbar will appear with two dropdowns:

Primary vs. Secondary Organize By

Primary Organize By

The primary dropdown determines the main structure of the view.

You can organize primarily by:

  • Groups (this is the default and is your WBS shown on canvas)

  • Float Path

  • Labor Resources

  • Any custom schedule code (e.g., Location, Phase, Trade)

  • You cannot set the primary organize by field to “None”

Secondary Organize By (Optional)

The secondary dropdown further organizes activities within the primary structure.

You can organize secondarily by:

  • None

  • Groups

  • Float Path

  • Labor Resources

  • Any custom schedule code

Common Use Cases

View Longest Path Without Groups

To view the Longest Path (Float Path) without grouping by WBS:

  1. Open the Gantt view

  2. Click More → Organize by

  3. Set:

    • Primary Organize By: Float Path

    • Secondary Organize By: None

Note: This removes group headers and displays activities directly by float path, making the longest path immediately visible.

Organize by Responsibility Instead of Groups

To view activities by who is responsible rather than default groups:

  • Primary: Responsibility

  • Secondary: None (or another field if desired)

Organize by Location and Labor

To create a hierarchical view:

  • Primary: Location

  • Secondary: Labor Resources

Note: This will first group activities by location, then organize them by labor within each location.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Organize and the default group view?

The default view groups activities based on your schedule's built-in structure. Organize lets you regroup the display by any available field, such as location or labor type, without changing the underlying schedule data.

Does organizing my view change my actual schedule?

No. Organize only changes how activities are displayed on screen. Your schedule data and activity assignments remain unchanged.

How do I reset the organize settings back to the default view?

Open the Organize pop-up (More > Organize) and clear the dropdown selections. Your view will return to its default grouping.

Can I organize by more than two fields?

No. The Organize feature supports up to two levels. Select your primary field in the first dropdown and an optional secondary field in the second dropdown.

What does hiding empty groups do?

When you organize by a field, some groups may contain no activities. Hiding empty groups removes those rows from view so you only see groups that have activities assigned to them.
