How to Connect Planera to Autodesk Forma Build

Steps for your Hub Admin in Autodesk to set up the Planera integration in Autodesk Forma Build, then connect your own account so you can export schedules.

Latest Update: 10-22-2026

This setup is a two-part process:

  • Step 1 is a one-time, hub-level setup done by an Autodesk Forma Hub Administrator. They add Planera as a Custom Integration in Autodesk so the whole account can use it.

  • Step 2 is done by each individual user who wants to export schedules to a project in Autodesk Form Build. It takes about 10 seconds.

If someone else at your company has already completed Step 1, you can skip straight to Step 2.

Before you start, make sure:

  • You have Hub Administrator access in Autodesk Forma (not just Project Administrator) if you're doing Step 1

  • Your account is associated with at least one active Autodesk Forma project

  • The Build and Data Management products are active on the target project(s)

  • A schedule has been created at least once in Autodesk's Build > Schedule tool (this creates the folder structure Planera needs; see [Exporting Schedules to Autodesk Construction Cloud] for details)

Step 1: Install Planera in Autodesk (Hub-Level, One-Time)

  1. Navigate to Hub Admin in the top-left menu to confirm you are a Hub Administrator.

  2. Open Custom Integrations from the left sidebar and click Add Custom Integration.

Note: If a Custom Integration with the Planera Client ID already exists, Autodesk won't let you create a new one. That means someone already completed this step: move on to Step 2.

  3. Enter the following details in the modal and click Next:

This is optional

5. A Permission Warning will appear, click Proceed anyway to save the integration.

Step 2: Connect Your Autodesk Account (Per-User)

Each user who wants to export schedules needs to connect their own account. You must be a Project Administrator to sync schedules from Planera to Autodesk Forma Build. The connection is stored in your browser, so if you switch browsers, clear your browser data, or open an incognito browser, you'll need to reconnect the integration in that browser.

Tip: To check your access level, go to your Autodesk project, then Project Admin > Members, and confirm your role shows "Project Administrator" with Build and Data Management access active.

  1. In Planera, click your user initial in the upper right corner and go to Organization Settings.

  2. Select the Integrations tab.

  3. Find the Autodesk integration card and click Connect to Autodesk.

  4. Sign in with your Autodesk credentials on the Autodesk login page that opens.

  5. Click Allow when Autodesk asks you to grant Planera access.

  6. You'll be redirected back to Planera. The integration card now shows Connected with your Hub name.

You're now connected and ready to export. For next steps read here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs to do the initial setup?

An Autodesk Account Administrator needs to complete Step 1, the Custom Integration setup. This is a one-time, hub-level step. After that, each user completes Step 2 individually with their own Autodesk credentials.

Why does each user need to connect separately?

Planera uses Autodesk's standard OAuth flow. Each user authenticates with their own account, so the hubs and projects they see in Planera match their own Autodesk permissions.

What happens if I clear my browser data?

You'll need to click Connect to Autodesk again. Your Autodesk connection is stored in your browser, not on Planera's servers, so clearing browser data signs you out of the integration. It's a quick re-authentication and no data is lost on the Autodesk side.

Does Planera store my Autodesk password?

No. Planera uses standard OAuth, the same protocol used by most modern SaaS platforms. You sign in directly on Autodesk's site, and Planera never sees or stores your password.

What if my connection expires?

You'll see a "Connection expired" message. Go to Org Settings > Integrations > Autodesk and click Connect to Autodesk again to re-authenticate.

Why can't I export while my schedule has unsaved changes?

The Export to Autodesk option is turned off while a schedule is stale. Each export becomes the newest version of the file in Autodesk, so exporting an out-of-date schedule would make stale data the version your team sees there. Save and run your schedule, then export.
