Adding text on canvas

Easily add project related custom text on canvas

Latest Update: 6-8-2026

You can add text to the canvas 3 ways:

  1. Navigate to the canvas and click on the text widget in left menu. Drag the widget to where you want to place the text and enter the desired text inside the box

  2. Right click on the canvas and select Textbox under the Embed option

  3. Copy text from another location and paste onto the canvas. Select Paste as Text Box and Confirm.

Formatting Text:

When you format a text box or a note, for example by setting a text color, Planera remembers your choices as a personal preference. The next text box or note you create starts with the same settings, so you do not have to reapply them every time. This is especially helpful in pull planning, where teams often use a consistent text color to represent a specific subcontractor.

  • Preferences are saved per user, so they follow your account and do not change anyone else's defaults.

  • The text box toolbar and the notes toolbar each save their own preferences.

  • Previously, every new text box defaulted to black and you had to reselect your color each time.

  • To work with text boxes and notes themselves, see Canvas Basics and Adding Comments and Notes to an Element.

Formatting Options:

  • Change text colors (6 colors)

  • Change text size (small, medium, large, extra large)

  • Change formatting (left, center & right aligned)

  • Change font style (bold, italic, underline, strikethrough)

  • Create lists using bullets, numbers or check boxes

  • Varying sized text with multiple styles and colors can be used in the same text box

  • Text box can easily be resized and moved or copied around the canvas

  • Paste URL links to access any web page

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to save my preference manually?

No. Planera saves your formatting choices automatically as you use the toolbar. The next text box or note picks them up on its own.

Will my preference change what my teammates see?

No. Preferences are saved per user. Your saved formatting applies only to the text boxes and notes you create.

My new text box still starts with a color I don't want. How do I change it?

Create or select a text box, set the color you want in the toolbar, and that becomes your new default for the next text box.

Are my text box and notes preferences the same setting?

No. They are saved separately, so you can keep a different default for text boxes than for notes.
