How to insert and dissolve elements in an existing network

Updated over a week ago

Planera allows users to add new elements or remove existing ones while maintaining the integrity of the project network connections.

In a Master schedule, you can insert an activity or milestone.

In a working schedule, you can insert a task or a milestone.

Inserting an Element

You can insert an element either before or after an activity in your project. Inserting an element with connections involves adding it and adjusting connections accordingly. In scenarios where there's a one-to-many (1:N) or many-to-one (N:1) relationship, N connections will be created or modified.

There are two ways to do this:

  1. From an Activity (or Task)

    • Right-click on an activity, go to "More," then "Insert New Element."

    • Select an option under 'PREDECESSOR' to insert it before the activity, or choose an option under 'SUCCESSOR' to insert it after the activity.

    • Once the new element is inserted, the network will be readjusted to maintain logical integrity, and the canvas layout will adjust accordingly.

    • Existing relationships and lags are preserved and transferred to the inserted activities. For instance, if you insert a successor to activity “Column AA3” (which has an SS +2d relationship with Column C1), the SS +2d relationship will be transferred to the right side of the inserted element.

  2. From the connector

    • Click on a connection where you want to insert an element.

    • Click on Insert New Element icon

    • Select an element to insert

    • An element will be inserted at that spot with the surrounding connected elements adjusted accordingly

    • Existing relationships and lags are preserved and transferred to the inserted activities. For example, if you insert an activity from a connector between Column A and Column AA3 with an FS+2d relationship, the relationship will transfer to the left side of the inserted activity."

Dissolving (deleting) an Element

Dissolving an element with connections means deleting it and reconnecting it accordingly. In cases of a one-to-many (1:N) or many-to-one (N:1) relationship, N connections will be established.

  1. Right-click on an activity, go to "More," then "Dissolve Element"

  2. Click “Confirm”

    • Once an element is dissolved, it will connect all its predecessors to its successors

Note: Relationships and lag existing on a dissolved element will transfer to respective elements. If the dissolved element has a predecessor FF or SS relationship with lag, only the relationship will transfer, not the lag.
