How to add Variance Reason Codes to an activity

Variance Reason Codes help you identify and document the reasons behind schedule changes in your activities. This guide explains how to add, manage, and search for these codes on the Canvas and Table views.

How to add Variance Codes to an activity on the Canvas

  1. Select an activity and open the Progress Status Panel


  2. If an activity or task is in-progress or completed, you can see on the right side of the panel whether the activity is On Time, Early or Late. Below it, you can see the Variance Reasons field. Click on it to view the list of Variance Reason Codes. You can also add Variance Reason Codes to activities and tasks that are not started to capture the history on why things are running behind schedule.

How to add Variance Reason Codes to an activity on the Table

  1. Find the “Variance Code” column and click the activity cell to add a reason code



    If the Variance Code column is not visible, add it from the tab header under "Updates." Learn more about Table here

How to Add Variance Reason Codes to an Activity In Gantt

There are two ways to add Variance Reason Codes in Gantt:

  1. Select the "Edit Columns" button and bring in the Variance Code column and click the cell to add a variance code. Learn more about organizing columns in Gantt here

  2. Right-Click an activity or Milestone and select "Activity Progress". You will be able to add variance codes from the dropdown menu. Click "Save" when you are done.

Searching for Activities with Variance Reason Codes

  1. Open filter in the top right


  2. Select “Variance Code” condition


  3. Toggle the codes and enable filter
