How to Track Variance Between Field and Master Schedules

How to compare data of a Field Schedule with its linked Master Schedule

Latest Update: 10-2-2026

Compare the Field Schedule's Start Date, Finish Date, Duration, Free Float, and Total Float with its linked Master Schedule and track their variance in the Table, Gantt, and Canvas view.

How to compare data from the Canvas

Field Schedule float values are frozen at creation, based on the Master Schedule it's linked to at that time. If the Master Schedule changes afterward, create a new Field Schedule or a new version to pull in float values based on the updated Master Schedule. Learn more in Creating New Version Of Field Schedule.

On the canvas, each element's variance values are compared against that frozen snapshot and color-coded:

Green: early

Grey: on time

Red: late

  1. Open a Field Schedule that's linked to a Master Schedule.

  2. Hover over an activity's planned start or finish date on the canvas. The variance will be color coded based on the FS expected dates compared to the MS dates from the snapshot taken when the Field Schedule was created.
