How to Manually Adjust the Order of Elements in Gantt
Ensure you do not have a filter, lookahead or organize by applied to your project
Click and hold on any activity, milestone or task, then drag it to the desired position. A blue line will indicate where the element will be placed in the order
After dropping an element, up and down arrows will appear next to the 'S/N' (Serial Number) of the element, indicating that the element has been manually positioned
Note: For projects imported from P6 or MS Project, any changes to sort order will be automatically saved
How to Undo the Manually Adjusted Order
Hover on the up and down arrow next to 'S/N' (Serial Number) of the element that has been manually moved
Click "Undo All" or "Undo Row"
Note: The element will revert to its default position in the order, which is sorted by start date. The undo feature is only available for projects created from scratch in Planera, projects imported from P6 will save automatically if the WBS order is manually adjusted.
How to Show WBS Sort Order for Imported Projects
Go to the "More" menu and select "Sort Order"
"Imported Order" will be the default sort order for projects started from an imported file
Note:
Projects made from a P6 import will retain the group (WBS) order and activities within groups will be sorted by earliest Start Date
Groups can only be rearranged manually in WBS Edit Mode.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I drag an group to reorder in the Gantt?
Manual reordering of groups only works in WBS Edit Mode. You can rearrange activities, tasks and milestones, but groups reordering is now handled in a separate mode.
How do I know if an element has been manually repositioned?
Up and down arrows appear next to the S/N (Serial Number) column for any element that has been manually moved out of its default order.
Can I undo a manual reorder?
For projects created from scratch in Planera, yes, hover over the up/down arrows next to the S/N and click Undo to revert to the default start-date order. Projects imported from P6 save sort order changes automatically and don't use this undo option.
Why can't I drag groups in the Table view?
Groups can only be manually rearranged in the WBS Edit mode. Table view only supports manual reordering of activities, milestones and tasks.
What sort order do P6-imported projects use by default?
P6-imported projects default to "Imported Order" sort order, which retains the WBS group order from P6, with activities inside each group sorted by earliest start date. You can view or change this from the "Sort Order" option in the More menu.
